Doctor-Led Eyebrow Restoration in Sydney

Eyebrow Transplant in Sydney

Dr Sana Pirzada — Medical Practitioner (General Registration), Ahpra MED0001970963.

Eyebrow transplantation moves selected donor hair follicles to the eyebrow area. It involves skin penetration, recovery and risks. Suitability depends on the cause of hair loss, donor hair, skin condition, medical history and expectations. A consultation is needed before any decision.

Risks include pain, bleeding, infection, scarring, altered sensation, poor growth and an unsatisfactory shape, density or hair direction. Results vary and transplanted scalp hair may need ongoing trimming. Alternatives, including no procedure, should be discussed.

Eyebrow transplant assessment and limitations

Assessment of Eyebrow Hair Loss

Eyebrow thinning or hair loss may occur for several reasons, including over-plucking, previous injury and certain medical conditions. Our clinicians assess the underlying concerns before discussing whether hair transplantation or other approaches may be appropriate.

Individualised Treatment Planning

Eyebrow transplantation may be considered for selected patients with sparse or uneven eyebrow growth. Suitability depends on the cause of hair loss, donor hair availability, skin condition and other individual factors.

Growth and maintenance vary

Graft survival, visible coverage, density and hair direction vary. Some grafts do not grow and ongoing grooming or further care may be needed.

Recovery and Aftercare

Eyebrow transplantation involves a recovery period that differs between patients. Temporary redness, swelling, scabbing, discomfort and changes in skin sensation may occur. Small scars or other complications are possible, and your clinician will provide individual aftercare guidance.

Information to discuss before deciding

Clinician-Led Assessment

Our clinicians assess eyebrow hair loss, donor hair availability and relevant medical factors before discussing treatment options. The qualifications and roles of practitioners involved in any procedure are explained during consultation.

FUE Hair Transplantation

FUE involves extracting individual follicular units from a donor area for transplantation. The choice of technique depends on individual suitability and the treating practitioner's clinical assessment.

Understanding Graft Survival

Not all transplanted hair follicles necessarily survive or produce visible growth. Graft survival, eyebrow coverage and final density vary between patients, and outcomes cannot be guaranteed.

Individual Eyebrow Design Planning

Eyebrow design considers facial proportions, existing eyebrow characteristics, donor hair availability and individual goals. The final appearance, growth direction and density may differ from the planned outcome.

Procedure and follow-up information

1

Consultation

A clinician assesses your eyebrow concerns, medical history, potential causes of hair loss and donor hair availability. Suitability, limitations, procedural risks and alternative options are discussed.

2

Follicle Extraction

Where transplantation is considered appropriate, individual follicular units are collected from a suitable donor area. Extraction may involve discomfort, bleeding, scarring or other complications.

3

Graft Preparation

Collected follicular units are assessed, prepared and handled according to the clinic’s clinical protocols before transplantation.

4

Implantation

Recipient sites are prepared according to the individual eyebrow design plan, and selected follicles are placed into the treatment area. Hair direction, density and final appearance can vary.

5

Recovery and Follow-Up

Redness, swelling, scabbing and discomfort may occur following the procedure. Some transplanted hairs may shed initially, with regrowth occurring over subsequent months. Healing and visible outcomes vary, and follow-up appointments allow the clinician to assess progress and provide ongoing advice.

What Is an Eyebrow Transplant?

Eyebrow transplantation places donor hair follicles, usually from the scalp, into the brow area. It does not guarantee a particular shape, density or direction of growth. Donor hair may retain scalp-hair characteristics and require ongoing trimming and grooming.

Assessment and alternatives

A doctor should assess the cause and stability of eyebrow hair loss, skin and donor-hair characteristics, medical history, medicines and expectations. Recent, progressive or inflammatory hair loss may need investigation or management before a procedure is considered. Some people are unsuitable. Alternatives may include monitoring, cosmetic camouflage or no treatment. Any skin-penetrating alternative also has its own risks.

Planning and the procedure

The proposed design and donor hair should be discussed before consent. Follicular unit excision involves removing individual follicular units and placing them in prepared recipient sites. It leaves small wounds and can cause scars. Ask who will perform each stage, their registration and relevant training, how anaesthesia will be managed and what follow-up is available.

Risks and limitations

Potential harms include pain, swelling, bruising, bleeding, infection, scarring, altered sensation, inflamed follicles, cysts, poor graft survival, patchy growth, hairs growing at an unwanted angle and a brow shape or density that differs from the plan. Reactions to anaesthesia or other products can occur. Some complications may be lasting, and further care or procedures may be needed. Existing medical causes of hair loss may also affect transplanted hair.

Recovery and grooming

Recovery varies. Redness, swelling, tenderness and scabbing may occur around the brows and donor area. Shedding can occur and visible growth takes months. Not every graft survives. Follow individual aftercare instructions and ask about washing, activity, sun exposure and grooming. Ongoing trimming or shaping may be necessary.

Fees and follow-up

Confirm consultation fees before booking. Before committing to a procedure, request written information about total costs, inclusions, reviews and possible additional care. Ask how complications are managed and who to contact after the procedure. Seek prompt medical advice for unexpected symptoms and urgent care for severe symptoms.

Making an informed decision

Take time to ask questions and consider alternatives. An assessment does not commit you to treatment. This information is general and does not replace individual medical assessment or informed consent.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q1: Do I need to trim transplanted eyebrows?

Transplanted scalp hair may grow longer than existing brow hair and need ongoing trimming or grooming. Ask about maintenance requirements before deciding. Individual growth and hair direction vary.

The proposed number depends on the area, existing brow hair, donor characteristics and clinical assessment. A fixed graft number does not guarantee a shape or density.

Discomfort can occur during and after the procedure. Ask the treating practitioner about pain management and anaesthesia risks. The procedure should not be described as painless.

Q4: Is an eyebrow transplant better than microblading?

Neither option is suitable for everyone. Transplantation moves follicles and involves procedural risks and ongoing grooming. Cosmetic tattooing adds pigment and has different risks and maintenance. Discuss the cause of hair loss, alternatives and suitability with an appropriate practitioner.

Suitability depends on the diagnosis and whether hair loss is active. Some medical conditions can affect transplanted hair or make a procedure unsuitable. A doctor should assess the underlying cause and discuss investigation, management or referral before any decision.
