NeoGraft Hair Transplant Sydney

NeoGraft is an FDA-cleared machine used for hair transplantation. It uses a minimally invasive method that is a variation of the FUE technique, which involves harvesting hair grafts one at a time instead of cutting a strip of skin from a donor site like the back of the head (FUT technique/Strip Method). NeoGraft uses an automated handheld device to remove follicles and implant them in balding areas.

Key Benefits

NATURAL-LOOKING RESULTS

Newly implanted hair follicles are placed in alignment with your natural hair growth direction and density. Results continue to develop over time, with full realisation typically achieved at 9–12 months following your NeoGraft hair transplant procedure. Individual results vary between patients.

MINIMAL DOWNTIME AND NO LINEAR SCAR

While a completely non-invasive hair transplanttreatment doesn’t exist, the NeoGraft® FUE method is a minimally invasive hair restoration solution for male and female hair loss with no visible scarring and fast recovery.

HIGH PATIENT SATISFACTION

NeoGraft® FUE hair restoration can be performed on all hair types. It’s no wonder NeoGraft boasts an average 94% “Worth It” rating from patients on RealSelf.com.

How it Works

NeoGraft® uses an automated Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) method to individually harvest hair follicles from the donor area — typically the lower back of the scalp, above the nape of the neck. Each follicular unit naturally contains one to four individual hairs. Once extracted, the follicles are carefully prepared and strategically reimplanted into areas of the scalp where hair thinning or loss has occurred.

Unlike the traditional strip (FUT) method, which requires the surgical removal of a section of scalp, the NeoGraft® micrograft procedure uses pneumatic-assisted extraction via an automated handpiece — no scalpel, no stitches, no linear scar. This approach minimises trauma to the scalp and is associated with little to no discomfort during the procedure. If you are weighing up your options, our doctors can also discuss the ARTAS hair transplant — another advanced robotic FUE system available at our Sydney clinics — to help determine the most appropriate approach for your hair loss, subject to individual assessment.

Procedure & Results

NeoGraft is an FDA-cleared and TGA-cleared automated FUE hair transplant device. Individual hair grafts are harvested one at a time — rather than via a strip excision — and reimplanted using a precision handheld device. The procedure is suited to a range of hair types and hair loss presentations, subject to clinical assessment at consultation.

  • Transplanted grafts are visible in position immediately after the procedure; results will continue to develop over the months that follow
  • Transplanted hair typically enters a resting phase and may shed at 2–4 weeks post-procedure before being replaced by new, fully functioning hair growth
  • Results continue to improve each week, with full realisation typically at 9–12 months; crown areas may take up to 18 months — individual results vary
  • Graft take rate is greater than 90%, associated with reduced trauma to the scalp compared with strip methods
  • Suited to all hair types and colours, subject to assessment at consultation
  • The procedure typically takes 4–8 hours, depending on the number of grafts required; larger sessions may occasionally be completed across two appointments for patient comfort
  • You remain awake throughout, with oral sedation and local anaesthesia used to keep you relaxed and comfortable

For patients managing scalp conditions that may be contributing to hair loss, our team can also discuss complementary options — including PRP treatment or a broader hair restoration programme — as part of a personalised treatment plan developed at consultation.

Downtime/Recovery

  • Most patients can return to work the following day if they choose; normal daily activity can typically be resumed within 48 hours, excluding strenuous exercise
  • A light bandage (similar to an ace-wrap) is worn post-procedure; some mild swelling may be present for 24–48 hours
  • Minor pinpoint redness and light scabbing at graft sites is normal and typically resolves within one week
  • A hat may be worn after 48 hours, provided it sits at least 5 cm above the treated area (e.g., a loose-fitting cap)
  • Your scalp and grafts require approximately two weeks to fully settle before resuming vigorous activity that significantly raises heart rate or blood pressure

You are charged for 1 follicle, not 4 hairs. The number of grafts needed is individual to each person with a range of 500-3,000 with the average being 2,000 grafts.

Frequently Asked Questions
(FAQs)

NeoGraft™ is an automated device that facilitates follicular unit harvesting during a Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and implantation hair transplant procedure. It improves accuracy and speed compared to previously used manual extraction instruments and is the only FDA Class I medical device — with TGA clearance in Australia — for follicular unit harvesting and implantation.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is an advanced, minimally invasive hair transplant technique that harvests individual follicular units from the donor area — typically at the back and sides of the scalp — without a scalpel or stitches, leaving no linear scar. You can review our full range of hair transplant options to compare approaches and find what may suit your needs, subject to consultation.

The FUE approach — as used by NeoGraft® — does not require the surgical removal of a strip of scalp, which means there is no linear scar at the donor site. Patients generally retain the flexibility to wear their hair short at the back following recovery and tend to experience fewer activity restrictions post-procedure compared to traditional FUT strip methods.

The NeoGraft™ automated handpiece functions as a precision extension of the physician’s technique, enabling faster and more consistent follicle extraction than manual FUE instruments. This may translate to reduced procedural time and, in some cases, fewer sessions required to achieve your goals.

FUE with NeoGraft™ may suit patients who prefer to wear shorter hairstyles at the back or sides following recovery, those with more active lifestyles who benefit from fewer post-procedure restrictions, and those who have previously undergone a strip procedure and are considering scar camouflage. Candidacy is subject to individual clinical assessment at consultation.

The most reliable way to determine your suitability is a one-on-one consultation with one of our doctors, who will assess your hair loss pattern, donor hair density, and individual goals before recommending the most appropriate treatment approach for you.

Our doctors are closely involved in all clinical decision-making and are present throughout your procedure. Certified NeoGraft technicians with 10–20+ years of procedural experience assist the physician during the session, ensuring you receive a high standard of care at every stage.

FUE procedures reflect the more precise and technically detailed nature of individual follicle harvesting, which is typically more time-intensive than strip (FUT) methods. In many cases, however, the overall pricing between the two approaches is comparable. A personalised cost estimate based on your specific hair loss presentation will be provided at consultation.

Final aesthetic results are generally comparable between FUE and strip methods when performed with precision and care. Both approaches yield follicular unit grafts containing one to four hairs. The primary difference lies in how the donor area is harvested: FUE with NeoGraft® leaves no linear scar, while strip methods result in a permanent linear scar at the donor site. Individual results vary.

Yes. Because FUE/NeoGraft™ is minimally invasive and leaves no linear scar, it may be a suitable option for both men and women experiencing hair loss, subject to individual assessment at consultation. Our team has experience managing a range of hair and scalp concerns and can advise on the approach most appropriate for your presentation.

Not necessarily. If your existing hair is of sufficient length, harvesting can often be performed by shaving only small sections of the donor area, which can typically be concealed by surrounding hair. Your doctor will advise on the most appropriate preparation approach based on your individual case.
